The company Hellenic ammunition will focus on producing TNT explosives and cartridge filling, as well as producing basic grains and propellant components. It will also produce 155 mm calibre artillery ammunition and 120 mm calibre tank ammunition.
TNT production plant
The explosive TNT manufacturing process has the following main operations, and equipment: Storage of Raw materials (Toluene, Acids), Dosing, Tri nitration of Toluene, Sauer Washing, Sulphitising, Neutral Washing, Drying, Granulation, Weighing and Packing, Waste acid treatment, Red water treatment.
Filling of explosive by casting method
The explosive charge filling process has the following main operations: Preparation of the trolleys and funnels for production process, shell body preheating, explosive melting and pouring, controlled cooling, explosives drilling and painting, X-Ray examination, assembling and packing.
Assembly of 155mm rounds 155mm ER
The plan is also counting with assembly of MSM 155mm Extended Range complete rounds which intention would be primary delivery for the needs of EU countries. Based on assessment transfer of technology for production of extended range rounds would be transferred to Lavrion plant in production and assembly of shell bodies, assembly of fuses, assembly with propellant charges.
Small caliber ammunition production line
The detected actions to carry out the production of small caliber lines 5,56 mm, 7,62 mm, 12,7 mm at Lavrio Plant and to increase the production capacity are as follows: New building for inert operation activities, adaptation of building for explosive operations, revamping of equipment and new acquisition of some equipment, new indoor ballistic test building, acquisition of new guns and testing equipment.
Production of various types of medium caliber ammo
The detected actions to carry out the production of medium caliber 20 mm, 30×113 and 30×113 and 40mm low and high velocity grenades are as follows: Revamping 3 Manuhrin machine – primering, filling by pressing, loading and assembling for 30 x 113 caliber and new tooling for 25 x 137mm caliber, build a new sand building for the projectile impact at external proving ground with range 200 meters, acquisition of new testing and ballistic equipment.
Assembly of 120mm Tank ammunition
Based on expertise of MSM in production of 120mm Tank ammunition, one of incentives would be transfer of components to Lavrion facility for LAP activities and complete assembly and know-how of production of 120mm Tank ammunition used in Greek and European Leopard tanks.
Base bleed production plant
Base Bleed Plant project will have following process and equipment:Storage of chemical components, oxidant grinding, external control of grinding and mixing, mixing for R+D and for production, pouring under vacuum condition, curing, tooling extractions and preparation of the tooling, mechanical properties and chemical checking, checking burning rate and static, finishing and packaging. The Production capacity estimated – 320 Base bleed grain for 155mm caliber.
Revision of ammunition
Well needed revision of stock ammunition of the countries should be made in Lavrion facility to secure extension of shelf life and safety of stock ammunition.
